Lakeway, TX is known as a resort community with greenbelts, trails, marinas, golf courses, a large lake, and a popular hotel and spa.

The city of Lakeway, TX was founded on the site of a ranch that was owned by a Houston oil man and rancher: Jack Josey. In 1962, businessmen from Houston obtained an option to purchase the plot of land. They intended to create a hotel and resort community. Simultaneously the Lakeway Land Company was created, and the development of real estate began. Over a decade later, most of the area’s resident and non-resident property owners voted and Lakeway was incorporated in 1974 – they wanted to incorporate with the consent of Austin. Lakeway was born. Lakeway was named after Gulfmont’s Fairway Motor Hotel in nearby McAllen, Texas. It was named this as it overlooked a golf course fairway.
