Over a decade later, most of the areaโ€™s resident and non-resident property owners voted and Lakeway was incorporated in 1974 – they wanted to incorporate with the consent of Austin. Lakeway was born. Lakeway was named after Gulfmontโ€™s Fairway Motor Hotel in nearby McAllen, Texas. It was named this as it overlooked a golf course fairway.
