5 Items You’ll Absolutely Need on Moving Day

The day has finally arrived. It is time for your big move, to a whole new place, adventure, and, above all, life! It’s time to get excited! However, amidst the pandemonium that ensues the moving process, it can be easy to forget the smallest of items, of which are imperative to you, and that you absolutely need on a day-to-day basis. I mean, how disheartening would it be to finally arrive at the doorstep of your brand new dream home, bags in hand, and you’ve forgotten the device that enables all of your favorite memories to be captured in singular, unforgettable, moments? Extremely disheartening. However, have no fear, for I have assembled a list of the nine most easily forgotten essentials, of which we encourage, immensely, to bring alongside you upon your move, or to procure promptly after moving in!

Cleaning Supplies – Ah, the sweet “New Home” aroma that has infiltrated the nostrils of your dreams, for years, is finally on the brink of infiltrating those of reality. You can’t wait to step inside, to cavernously inhale the air around you, and to taste its cleanliness. Alas, upon your arrival, you find that the house is not in the as clean as you had hoped and dreamed it would be; and to piggyback that, your movers, and the moving process in general, attribute the filth that was left behind. What do you do? To alleviate what you may find upon your arrival, promptly after, I’ve found that bringing these items are your best bet essentials:

  • Vacuum (either large or handheld)
  • Clorox wipes (or equivalent) to wipe away grime and dust, also suitable for refrigerator shelves, etc.
  • Sponges to wash dishes, and rags to dry
  • Toilet bowl cleaner
  • Paper towels
  • Dustpan

Corkscrew – For when the house is finally settled, you’re all moved in, and you’re ready to uncork a celebratory (or soothing) bottle of wine! Although, you should perhaps refrain from throwing it in a box, amidst the slew of other items; and, instead, keep it in an in a backpack, or a handheld bag for convenience.

Clothing Hangers – I highly recommend that, when packing your hangers, you pack them in a transparent, or translucent box, so that you immediately know where they are upon moving in. There’s nothing quite like a smooth transition for the clothes from their bag to the closet racks!

Batteries –While often being overlooked, batteries are imperative to the moving process. Whether they are for flashlights (as you may be unaware of your power being out for the first day or two) or for a TV remote, you’ll absolutely need batteries!

Toilet Paper – Oh man, what an awful experience it would be if you made it to your brand new dream home, prepared a masterfully crafted dinner in celebration (of which you devoured whole), and felt the impending desire to use the restroom, as it brewed in the pit of your stomach, and you failed to bring any toilet paper to alleviate the issue. Trust me, you, as well as everyone else who occupies the house, will thank you for having brought some.
